Suit Filed Against Kirby Corporation for Overworked Deckhand's Injury
- Arnold & Itkin
Arnold & Itkin attorneys have filed suit in Harris County, Texas against Kirby Corporation on behalf of a deckhand who suffered a serious bicep injury while performing heavy lifting operations aboard a vessel.
The injury was not the result of a one-time accident. Our client was asked to perform strenuous lifting tasks again and again, without the assistance of a properly sized crew and without the equipment that would have made the work safe. Kirby failed to provide adequate manpower, failed to furnish a reasonably safe place to work, and failed to put safe procedures in place for the kind of demanding physical work it expected from its crew members.
The bicep injury our client now lives with has required medical treatment and has affected his ability to do the work he depends on to support himself. None of that should have happened. A reasonably staffed crew, the right equipment, and basic safety procedures would have prevented this injury entirely.
Our maritime injury lawyers are committed to holding Kirby Corporation accountable for putting profits over the well-being of its crew and for the lasting harm caused by its unsafe practices.
