Attorney Caj Boatright

Caj Boatright is an exceptional attorney because he makes a habit out of securing life-changing results for his clients. Few lawyers have tried as many cases or obtained as many multi-million dollar settlements as Caj has. What makes that more remarkable is that in his 15-year career, he has only represented plaintiffs for the last 5. Regardless, he has secured hundreds of millions for clients in a staggering amount of high-stakes cases:

  • $11,000,000 judgment for a businessman cheated by a contract breach
  • $10,000,000 settlement for the family of a victim in a fatal truck collision
  • $10,000,000 settlement for an injured child
  • $9,000,000 settlement for a severely injured oil field worker
  • $6,500,000 settlement for two refinery workers exposed to harmful chemicals
  • $3,000,000 settlement for a boat captain whose back was injured at sea
  • $2,800,000 verdict for a dock worker who suffered an ankle injury during cargo operations
  • $2,400,000 settlement for a woman after a truck backed into her

The secret to Caj’s exceptional results is the “formula” all Arnold & Itkin lawyers have made a part of their practice:

  • Relentless Endurance – We outwork our opponents
  • Extensive Preparation – We don’t bluff; all our cases are trial-ready
  • Unwavering Dedication – Our goal is your maximum recovery
  • Unrivaled Resources – We have won against the world’s largest opponents
  • Extensive Skill & Experience – The courtroom has been our domain for years

Caj’s practice is built on his finely-tuned sense of justice for his clients. His passion is holding negligent and reckless companies accountable for their conduct, which is why he ceaselessly fights for the maximum possible recovery for his clients. He also believes that trying cases before a jury is the best way for his clients to get what they need.

His remarkable legal career has been marked by multiple honors and awards. These include multiple selections to the Texas Super Lawyers® Rising Stars™, designation as a “Top 100 Trial Lawyer in America,” and even the “Top Professional on the Fast Track” award from H Texas Magazine. For his incredible results, he was offered exclusive membership in the Million Dollar Advocates and Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum®. In addition, he was selected for the list for Best Lawyers in America® for 2017 for Admiralty and Maritime Law.

One of Caj’s primary strengths as a lawyer is his wide range of experience in the field. He spent four years at one of the most well-respected firms in Texas practicing complex commercial litigation and appellate law. He spent an additional five years overseeing some of Exxon Mobil’s most important cases, entrusted with cases worth billions of dollars. He also clerked for the Honorable Reynaldo Garza on the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. Today, he applies his vast knowledge to representing the injured and grieving.

Caj was raised in a small town in western Texas named Sweetwater. A lifelong Texas resident, he attended Southwestern University for his undergraduate degree and the University of Texas School of Law for his law degree. He attended law school alongside Kurt and Jason, and eventually became the first attorney to join the firm after its founding. When not litigating cases, Caj spends time with his wife Jodi and their three children. Together, they attend sporting events, enjoy the outdoors, attend Kingwood United Methodist Church, and volunteer for Young Life.

$10 Million Settlement Secured for Family of Trucking Accident Victim

When a loved one dies in a tragic accident, it has emotional and psychological ripples that affect families for years. Our clients lost their father and sole provider in a trucking accident caused by a reckless truck driver and entrusted their future to Arnold & Itkin. Knowing what was at stake, Attorneys Kurt Arnold, Caj Boatright, and Ces Tavares thoroughly and relentless pursued compensation on behalf of our clients. By aggressively pursuing the case and expediting the trial, we pressured the trucking company into providing the financial support our clients deserved. While no amount of money can replace their dad, the $10 million settlement will ensure that they have financial security and provision for the rest of their lives. Our firm is proud to have helped our clients receive justice and secure their future.

Attorney's fees and expenses totaled 4651972.97.

$9 Million Settlement Obtained for Injured Oil Field Worker

A severely injured oil field worker was told by his initial attorney he had little to no chance of recovery. Fortunately, he wouldn’t take no for an answer and enlisted the help of Attorneys Caj Boatright and Kurt Arnold. Our firm took the case and immediately began an aggressive investigation into the circumstances surrounding our injured worker’s accident. The firm’s substantial resources coupled with our tenacious leadership allowed our victim to be able to overcome numerous legal hurdles and attain maximum compensation. The defendants opted to pay our client a $9,000,000 settlement plus lifetime medical benefits rather than to take the case before a jury. We are proud to represent the rights of the wronged and proud to have obtained a settlement that ensures our client experiences a secure future.

Attorney's fees and expenses totaled 3889660.53.

$6.5 Million Obtained for Workers Exposed to Dangerous Gas

Arnold & Itkin LLP helped represent the rights of two contractors who were dangerously exposed to gas while working at a refinery plant. Despite the dangers of the exposure, the plant owner refused to ensure that our clients received proper medical care. Concerned that they were not receiving the appropriate medical attention and that the plant owner was attempting to minimize the incident, the contractors hired our firm. Attorneys Kurt Arnold, Caj Boatright, and Kala Sellers took on the case. We first ensured that the two workers received immediate medical care. It was found that they had suffered severe injuries and they were hospitalized as a result. We then began an aggressive discovery process that included dozens of depositions. During this process, we found several other incidents and helped to uncover a severe safety culture problem. Weeks before the trial was set to begin before a jury, we reached a settlement of $6.5 million on behalf of our clients.

Attorney's fees and expenses totaled 3162530.91.

$5 Million Secured for Injured Child the Day Before Trial

Attorneys Kurt Arnold, Jason Itkin, and Caj Boatright secured $5 million for our clients in a case that never went to trial. Our client, only a child, needed compensation and justice—we continued pushing for a sooner court date, putting continuous pressure on the Defendant. Eventually, they settled the case with our client within 14 months of filing rather than face our firm in court. The team is proud to have helped our client receive justice and the financial support to recover well.

Attorney's fees and expenses totaled 1462346.70.

$3M Recovered on Behalf of Injured Boat Captain

At Arnold & Itkin, we are proud to announce that we have been successful in recovering a substantial $3M settlement on behalf of a boat captain who was injured after his vessel sank. The boat went under after being hit by particularly rough seas; the captain attempted to make sure his crew was safe, during which he sustained serious injuries to both his back and his neck. He also suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder. Attorneys Caj Boatright and Kurt Arnold took on the case and aggressively pushed toward trial. Our firm was successful in recovering a $3 million settlement for our client only a year after the accident happened.

Attorney's fees and expenses totaled 1379167.25.

$2.8 Million Awarded to Worker with Broken Ankle

The attorneys at Arnold & Itkin recently represented an injured rigger in a personal injury suit. The worker was performing part of a routine crane operation when the accident occurred. A large load landed on his foot and subsequently broke his ankle. The rigger's employer and company denied all responsibility, blaming our client for causing the accident. Attorneys Jason Itkin, Kurt Arnold, Cory Itkin, and Caj Boatright fought on behalf of our client, successfully convincing the court that our client was not at fault. Our skilled legal team was able to win him $2.8 million for his injuries and pain and suffering.

Attorney's fees and expenses totaled 1221694.28.

$2.4 Million Secured For Elderly Woman in Truck Accident

An elderly woman was severely injured when a delivery truck driver backed up his vehicle and hit her. Several surgeries followed to address the damage the back wheel of the truck had done to her leg. Initially, the truck driver and his employer claimed the elderly woman was at fault for her own injuries, but Caj Boatright and Kurt Arnold put together an aggressive strategy to prove this was not the case. After seeking out eyewitnesses and hiring an exceptional trucking expert to prove the truck driver and employer were at fault, the woman was cleared of any personal responsibility for her injury. With the assistance of medical experts, they determined the substantial amount of future medical care the client would need and recovered $2,400,000 for her losses. Arnold & Itkin is proud to continue to help clients obtain just compensation for their injuries and keep the negligence of companies in check.

Attorney's fees and expenses totaled 1025320.38.

$1.9 Million Recovered in Chemical Plant Accident Case

After being struck by a piece of equipment during a turn-around operation at a chemical plant, the injured worker turned toward our industrial injury lawyers for help. Attorneys Caj Boatright, Cory Itkin, and Noah Wexler took on the case and combatted the plant's allegations that our client was to blame for the accident. We pushed aggressively to take the case to trial and were able to prove that the equipment should have been removed years prior to the incident. The plant agreed to settle for $1,900,000 rather than face trial.

Attorney's fees and expenses totaled 818670.83.

$1.7 Million Verdict Returned for Injured Offshore Worker

Attorneys Caj Boatright and Kala Sellers represented a maritime worker who suffered two breaks in his arm after the explosion of a fuel gas header on an offshore platform. W&T Offshore had contested liability for more than two years leading up to the trial; however, its Vice President of Production admitted under cross-examination that there was no excuse for the failure to make the fuel gas header safe. The jury took less than three hours to find W&T Offshore 100% liable for the incident. They awarded $1.7 million to our client.

Attorney's fees and expenses totaled 0.00.

$1.7M Jury Verdict Won for Victim of Helicopter Crash

Arnold & Itkin Attorneys Cory Itkin and Caj Boatright represented a victim of a serious helicopter accident. Their client was an offshore fire and safety inspector who was being transported to an offshore platform at the time of the incident. The PHI helicopter experienced a tail rotor failure—causing the pilot to land in the Gulf of Mexico. The helicopter then flipped over in the water after it landed as the flotation devices had not been properly installed. Our client subsequently suffered from PTSD, as well as a severe back injury that eventually required surgery.

PHI argued they had done nothing wrong and that the entire incident could be blamed on the manufacturers of the tail rotor. They went on to claim that our client had not even been injured in the accident; they argued that the two other people who were involved in the crash were not injured and that our client had previously suffered from back problems and depression. PHI claimed that our client had been on pain medication for his back for years and that MRIs from a year prior to the accident were identical to those taken after the fact.

Despite the fact that PHI argued our client was faking his injuries, we stood by our client to successfully beat back the charges. We showed to the jury that our client was entitled to fair monetary compensation for the trauma that he had been put through. Not only were we able to obtain a $1.7M judgment in a jury trial, but we were also able to obtain a settlement with another party before the trial. The jury found that PHI was 100% to blame for the accident and they were therefore not entitled to receive any settlement credit.

Arnold & Itkin Settle $1.45M Jones Act Claim for Seaman

Arnold & Itkin worked with a seaman recently who filed a Jones Act claim after suffering a serious back injury while on the job. The defending parties claimed that this worker had previous back problems and had even had a surgery performed in previous years because of back ailments. Therefore, they claimed that this recent back injury and a subsequent injury were not legitimate. Attorneys Caj Boatright and Kurt Arnold partnered together to work with this client. They took a number of medical dispositions attempting to link up the second injury that the plaintiff suffered with his present condition. After much work, the case settled only one week before they were scheduled to go to trial.

Attorney's fees and expenses totaled 880067.01.

$1,000,000 Settlement for Man Who Fell from Second-Floor Building

Arnold & Itkin is proud to announce a settlement on behalf of our client. After the apartment resident fell from a second-floor apartment balcony, he suffered severe head and neck injuries. We worked fast to file a suit, secure a trial date, and obtain a settlement on his behalf. We successfully forced a $1M settlement for our injured client.

Attorney's fees and expenses totaled 436647.47.

$950,000 Settlement for Jones Act Seaman

Cory Itkin and Caj Boatright obtained a settlement that paid a Jones Act seaman $950,000, plus all his past medical expenses (approximately $200,000) after just two days of trial. The total settlement will be worth approximately $1.15 million. The worker was injured when he tripped over a wire laying across the deck of a barge he was working on. This caused the seaman to fall overboard. He injured his back in the incident and eventually needed surgery to treat his injuries. The defendant argued that the wire was open and obvious and tried to blame the injured worker since he could have simply stepped around the trip hazard. The defendant also implied that the unwitnessed incident never occurred and that the injured deckhand simply made up the incident. Last, they argued that the worker was not really injured from the alleged incident. His employer pointed to a history of previous back injuries and noted that the plaintiff went to work for another company after the incident and passed an extensive pre-employment physical to obtain that job. The defendant’s highest offer of settlement before trial was only $200,000. After Cory and Caj obtained a favorable testimony at the start of the trial, the defendant increased its settlement offer to an amount that ensured the injured worker and his family would be taken care of while they move on to the next phase of their life. The case was tried to the bench (without a jury) in the Southern District of Texas with the Honorable Gray Miller presiding.
Attorney's fees and expenses totaled 494803.17.

Firm Secures $750,000 for Vessel Worker

Attorneys Kurt Arnold, Caj Boatright, and Kala Sellers have won a $750,000 settlement for our client, who was injured while working on the deck of his vessel. Thanks to a dangerous condition on deck, our client tripped and injured his knee and his shoulder. Our firm ensured that he received the medical care he needed while quickly filing suit on his behalf. Seeing how prepared we were for trial, his employer chose to settle with our client rather than face a jury. The team at Arnold & Itkin is proud to have helped provide for the needs and care of another injured worker.

Attorney's fees and expenses totaled 332593.60.

$700,000 Obtained On Behalf Of Oil Field Worker Injured In Fall

After falling off equipment at a drilling site, an oil field worker broke his arm and sustained serious injury. While the defendant staunchly blamed our client for his accident and attempted to sway investigative reports, our skilled attorneys, Caj Boatright, Kala Sellers, and Ces Tavares, aggressively fought on his behalf. Incident eyewitnesses were called to testify in front of a jury; however, the defendant decided to settle the case and pay our injured client his due compensation, $700,000. At Arnold & Itkin, our attorneys thrive on fighting for injured victims against large companies. We always allocate the necessary time and resources to prepare cases for trial, and are proud that our efforts could secure this client’s financial future.

Attorney's fees and expenses totaled 363177.11.

$650,000 Recovered for Injured Jones Act Seaman

Attorneys Kurt Arnold, Caj Boatright, and Kyle Findley recently settled a lawsuit on behalf of an injured Jones Act Seaman just four days before the trial was set to begin. The plaintiff had been working as an engineer onboard a dredging vessel when he fell from a ladder, resulting in several broken ribs and injuries to his neck and back. Although the defendant had refused to pay maintenance and cure for the seaman's injuries throughout the course of litigation—claiming that too much time had passed between the accident and the seaman's complaints of neck and back pain—Arnold & Itkin was able to make a strong case in our client's favor. The defendant blamed the seaman's carelessness for the accident, but our firm was able to show that the defendant was, in fact, negligent in failing to equip the ladder with slip resistant materials. The attorneys were also able to prove that the denial of maintenance and cure was improper. As a result, the defendant agreed to settle the case for $650,000 four days before trial.

Attorney's fees and expenses totaled 325088.92.
