A foreman with the company ordered our client and his coworkers to manually move a heavy generator aboard a barge in Cameron, Louisiana, a task that should have been done by forklift. Performing this task manually resulted in serious back injuries.
There is no reasonable excuse for asking workers to move heavy machinery by hand when the proper equipment exists for that exact purpose. Forklifts are used for tasks like this because human bodies are not built to carry that kind of load safely, and our client's injuries are the direct result of that basic fact being ignored.
