Arnold & Itkin Wins Nearly $450,000 Verdict for Injured Shrimp Boat Worker
Posted on
The offshore injury attorneys at Arnold & Itkin recently obtained a substantial verdict on behalf of an injured seaman. Our firm was able to successfully secure almost $450,000 for the man, helping him receive the compensation he needed for medical bills and a healthy recovery. The four-day trial took place in Matagorda County, Texas.
The plaintiff sustained a severe back injury while he was working for one of the largest private shrimp fleet operators in the United States. The seaman was working as a shrimper in the Gulf of Mexico when the injury occurred. Unfortunately, his employer denied his claim for maintenance and cure and decided to contend at trial that the man had never even worked for him.
Final Jury's Verdict
Arnold & Itkin successfully argued that the seaman actually did work for the defendant and had sustained a serious injury while working on his vessel. Due to the defendants previous actions, we were also able to argue that he acted willfully in failing to pay our client his maintenance and care after finding out about his injuries. This entitled our client to an award of attorney's fees as well as the final jury's verdict--close to $450,000. Arnold & Itkin was proud to be able to successfully represent the injured seaman, helping him secure the compensation he deserved.
