Port Isabel

The Port Isabel and San Benito Navigation District

Port Isabel, or the Port of Port Isabel, is a port that services cargo ships, cruise ships, and shrimp boats regularly. This port, like so many other Texas ports, is committed to advancing the economy in this region and beyond. It is actually located in the city of Port Isabel, Texas, which is the reason for the redundant name. This is a deep-water port, one of 12 in Texas that has a depth of 36 feet. It was commissioned in 1929 for the purpose of lowering transportation costs. Now, it is home to more than 27 businesses that have over 600 employees combined.

Port businesses are dedicated to providing jobs. Arnold & Itkin knows that Port Isabel is home to many people who are employed at this port, which is why we are dedicated to serving these very offshore workers. Since this port lies on the southernmost tip of Texas, it is used to ship to Mexico, and both Central and South America. Because this port lies on the U.S. Intracoastal Waterway, it has access to many other major ports along the Gulf. There are still around 50 acres of available land for those who wish to make the Port of Port Isabel their business's home.

Cameron County, Texas

Located in Cameron County, Port Isabel is a city with a population of about 5,000. Unfortunately for the city, it has undergone extensive damage due to hurricanes that have swept through the region. The first major recorded hurricane was Hurricane Beulah in 1967 which peaked at Category 5 intensity. Overall, this storm caused $1 billion in damages. The town was again struck in 2008 by the Category 2 tropical storm Hurricane Dolly. It caused about 212,000 households in Texas to lose their power and eventually caused around the same total dollar amount of damage as Hurricane Beulah. Of the 2.9 square miles that the city is situated on, nearly 25% of that is water.
