Seaman Severs Foot, Coast Guard Rescues with Helicopter

A worker aboard a supply ship was in serious danger after he lost his foot in an accident aboard his vessel. The man allegedly caught his foot in a line on the ship, and it came clean off. The captain of the supply ship contacted the Coast Guard at about 4:00 p.m., asking if they could come to their aid.

The Coast Guard helicopter arrived shortly after and medevaced the victim. Known as the MH-65 Dolphin, this helicopter lifted off from Air Station Houston and rushed to the scene. The supply ship was located about five miles off of the Louisiana Coast. The 27-year-old victim was in stable condition when he was airlifted to the Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.

The Coast Guard says that they made an effort to take rapid action. This is because seconds count when dealing with injuries at sea.
