Global Industries, Ltd., together with its subsidiaries, serves the shallow and deepwater offshore oil and gas industry. Originally established in 1974 to work in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, the company has expanded to include operations in North America, Latin America, West Africa, the Middle East, the Asia Pacific/India regions, as well as the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.

Global Industries’ business consists of two principal activities: Offshore Construction Services, which include pipeline construction and platform installation and removal services; and Subsea Services, which include diving and diverless intervention, SURF (subsea equipment, umbilical, riser, and flow line), and support services for construction.

The deepwater areas of the Gulf of Mexico have shown a remarkable increase in oil and gas exploration, development, and production over the past year, partially due to the development of new technologies designed to reduce operational costs and risks. According to the U.S. Minerals Management Service, there are about 90 announced Gulf of Mexico deepwater prospects. Global Industries has the capability to provide services at depths up to 10,000 feet. As clients move into deeper water, Global is building on its deepwater expertise, adding new technologies and vessels. The state-of-the-art pipelay /derrick vessel Global 1200 is expected in late 2010. The vessel is 532 feet long and features a 1,200 metric ton crane. The Global 1200 will feature pipe-laying capabilities to depths of 6,500 feet.

Global Industries shares are traded on the NASDAQ Global Select Market under the symbol “GLBL”. As of December 31, 2009, Global Industries, Ltd had 2,793 employees. The company owns 603 acres near Carlyss, Louisiana, which serves as the corporate headquarters and the headquarters of the North America Offshore Construction and Subsea Operations. The facility, a deepwater support facility and pipe base, is capable of accommodating Global’s deepwater draft vessels.

In the United States, Global Industries is subject to the jurisdiction of the U.S. Coast Guard, the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the National Transportation Safety Board and the United States Customs and Border Protection. The Coast Guard and the National Transportation Safety Board set safety standards and are authorized to investigate vessel accidents and recommend improved safety standards, and the United States Customs and Border Protection is authorized to inspect vessels at will.

The major customers of Global Industries include oil and gas producers and pipeline companies such as Chevron, Petrobras, Petroleos Mexicanos, Mobil Producing Nigeria, PT Transportasi Gas Indonesia, and Saudi Aramco. Global’s competitors for deepwater projects in North America include Allseas Marine Contractors, S.A., Helix Energy Solutions Group, Inc., and J. Ray McDermott, S.A.
