About Paul Skrabenek: Attorney Biography

Born and raised on Texan ground, Paul attended high school in Tomball, Texas. He then became a proud Cougar at the University of Houston where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Political Science - graduating cum laude with both degrees respectively. During his time there, he was also inducted in the physics honor society of the Sigma Pi Sigma.

Before he entered into the legal industry, Paul dipped his toes into political waters. In fact, he was actively involved in running political campaigns for over two years - helping with a City Council race in Houston, as well as one for the U.S. Congress. While handling these campaigns, Paul found himself growing increasingly interested in the legal industry and eventually left to attend the South Texas College of Law, where he graduated with high honors in 2007. During his time there he was a member of the following different organizations:

  • South Texas Law Review;
  • Order of the Lytae; and
  • Langdell Scholar in Torts

Immediately after graduation, Paul joined the ranks of the legal team at Arnold and Itkin. He has since devoted his career to protecting the rights of clients in cases that involve commercial law as well as personal injury. He has proven himself to be a dedicated advocate for the rights of the injured and has shown that he is fully capable to handle the daunting cases involving offshore injuries.

He recognizes the nuances of maritime law and is prepared to commit the necessary time and energy needed to navigate through these cases. Victim of Arm and Back Injuries Wins $4.9 Million Verdict

The legal team of Kurt Arnold, Jason Itkin and Paulk Skrabanek from firm at Arnold & Itkin, LLP have recently worked together to help represent an employee of Diamond Offshore. The plaintiff was a driller working on the Ocean Yorktown off of the coast of Brazil when he was unexpectedly hoisted into the air. After being lifted over twenty feet, his fall protection failed and he sustained serious injuries to his arm and back. Our firm filed the case in Harris County, TX and tried it before Judge Wilson in the 157th District Court. The trial lasted for over a week and a half before the jury returned with a unanimous $4,900,000 verdict.

$4.8 Million Recovered for Daughter of Deceased Worker

Arnold & Itkin LLP represented the daughter of a worker who lost his life as the result of a head injury sustained at the Van Dyke's seafood processing facility in Port Arthur, Texas. Attorneys Kurt Arnold and Paul Skrabanek were able to successfully obtain a $4.8 million verdict in the case, which was tried in Jefferson County, Texas. Van Dyke personnel allowed the injured worker to lie in a break room for seven hours after the incident, which left him bleeding from the mouth and complaining of a severe headache. The jury verdict was unanimous and was reached after only four hours of deliberation.

Injured Offshore Worker Receives $3.35 Million

Arnold & Itkin LLP settled a case for $3.35 million, for an offshore worker who injured his neck and back while working on equipment on an offshore installation in the Gulf of Mexico. Attorneys Kurt Arnold and Paul Skrabanek settled the case the day before the trial was to begin.

Refinery Worker Receives $2.4 Million from Verdict

The Plaintiff, an injured refinery worker, suffered third degree burns on 20% of his body due to an engineering company producing faulty equipment. The trial lasted one week and ended in favor of the Plaintiff. Attorney Paul Skrabanek was able to see three of the seven witnesses in trial as well as question voir dire of one of the defenses' expert witnesses. The defendant's final offer was for $135,000.

Settlement of $1.6 Million Received for Apartment Complex Owner

Attorney Paul Skrabanek of Arnold & Itkin LLP was able to represent a client who claimed that an insurance company did not pay enough to cover damages for the fire that burned the apartment complex he owned. The day before the case would have proceeded to a different county, Paul Skrabenek was able to settle it and obtain $1.6 million on behalf of his client.

The Plaintiff, a Jones Act seaman, was injured by getting struck in the face with a piece of offshore equipment. Attorney Paul Skrabanek argued numerous cases and took 15 depositions before the case was resolved.

Financial Officer Receives $1.2 Million in Settlement

A financial advisor sought the help of Arnold & Itkin after he was not paid a contractual fee. The Plaintiff filed a breach of contract and tort actions against the Defendants. Paul Skrabanek was able to take the witness of the key witness from the defense, who was also the owner of the Defendant company. In the end, $1.2 million was obtained for the financial advisor.

Maritime Worker Receives $900,000 for Offshore Injuries

Arnold & Itkin LLP represented an injured maritime worker in an offshore injury claim that resulted in a recovery of $900,000. The worker sustained a serious lower back injury as the result of a fall from a personnel basket. A crane operator decided to make the transfer in conditions where visibility was limited due to heavy fog. He failed to properly line up the boom, which caused the basket to swing in midair. The worker was dropped approximately 6 to 8 feet and landed on his back. The resulting injuries required surgery. The case was resolved within one year of filing.

The case was pending in the southern District of Texas, Houston Division. The Honorable Judge Gray Miller presided.

Catastrophic Burn Victim Recovers $875,000

Attorneys Kurt Arnold and Paul Skrabanek from Arnold & Itkin, LLP, along with Attorney Brad Wyly from the Wyly Law Firm recently worked together to represent the victim of catastrophic burns. The client was working when he went to check on the diesel level in a generator; due to the contaminated diesel, it ignited and caused serious injuries to the plaintiff's face, back, head and body. These resulted in the need for surgery and skin grafts. Together, the attorneys were able to recover $875,000 for the client. The case was pending in the 125th District Court in Harris County, TX before Judge Kyle Carter.

Due to an arc fire which occurred at his workplace, a workman suffered arm and neck burns. Arnold & Itkin lawyer Paul Skrabanek defended the client and secured the $800,000 settlement.

Arnold & Itkin Obtains $700,000 Settlement for Man Injured by Truck Accident

Arnold & Itkin attorney Paul Skrabanek secured $700,000 for the victim of a truck accident in Orange, Texas. The driver of the truck was cited for negligent driving after making a careless lane change which pinned the victim. The trucking company moved for summary judgment on gross negligence, however, the firm was able to argue to keep cause of action and punitive damages in play.

Deckhand Trips Over Hose and Receives Settlement of $600,000

Attorneys Paul Skrabanek and Kurt Arnold of Arnold & Itkin LLP were able to obtain a $600,000 settlement in a case involving a serious neck injury a deckhand sustained as the result of a fall. The client tripped and fell over a large hose that was lying in the middle of the deck and injured his neck in the fall. After only one deposition, the case was settled three months prior to the trial.

The weekend before the trial was set to begin, the case was settled for $475,000. Paul won almost every single in the pretrial hearing and took five depositions total on the case.

Arnold & Itkin represented a yacht chef who had been injured in a line handling accident – resulting in a pinched off pinky finger. Paul Skrabanek took all six depositions and secured a $415,000 settlement.

Lifting Accident Result in Workman Receiving $400,000 Reimbursement
