Missouri Jones Act Attorney

Offshore Injury Law Firm Representing Clients in Missouri

If you or someone you love was injured in Missouri or anywhere in the United States or off the coast, it is important to consult an attorney who has a solid understanding of maritime law and how it may affect your right to seek and recover financial compensation. A Missouri Jones Act attorney may be able to accurately determine what rights you have under the Jones Act or other applicable maritime laws. For example, if you were working on a barge and were injured because the vessel owner or your employer was negligent in some way, you may be entitled to compensation for maintenance and cure. You may be able to receive benefits that will cover medical care, lost earnings and possibly more. A lawyer who understands the ins and outs of maritime law can not only advise you of your best options but can protect your legal rights through the claims process to help you seek maximum compensation.

Though Missouri is located inland, it borders the Mississippi River and therefore has a number or river ports along the Mississippi and the Missouri River. The people who work on the barges and other vessels that travel through the ports in Missouri or who work at the ports themselves may be at risk of serious injury due to the inherent dangers associated with the maritime industry. We have included some interesting facts about a few of the key ports in Missouri:

  • Port of Saint Louis, Missouri is located on the Mississippi River on the border of Missouri and Illinois. The port offers easy access to the Illinois River and Missouri River and is served by 6 Class One railroads and several short lines. It is also close to 2 international airports and major transcontinental pipelines. The City of St. Louis Port Authority manages and operates the Port of St. Louis, which manages more than 32 million tons of cargo every year. Some of the main products handled by the port include: coal, petroleum products, grain, chemicals, aggregates and scrap metals.
  • Port of Kansas City, Missouri is located at the confluence of the Missouri and Kansas Rivers in Kansas City, MO. It is one of the largest storage and distribution centers that serves the Missouri River, and the main cargo shipped through the terminal includes grain, meal, bark, rolled and coiled steel, salt, rebar, H-beams, plate steel, corn and fertilizer. Since the 1970s, barge traffic on the Missouri River has steadily declined, dramatically affecting the Port of Kansas City. For most of the decade, low water levels resulted in shorter navigation seasons. In 2009, however, the drought ended and water levels began to rise. The inexpensive cost of shipping on the Missouri may increase traffic in the Port of Kansas City, as may continually increasing water levels. The Port Authority of Kansas City is responsible for managing the port.
  • Howard/Cooper County Port, Missouri is located on the left bank of the Missouri river, directly across from Boonville Missouri. The port is located within one mile of the Missouri Pacific Railroad and is the only public shipping access between Kansas City and St. Louis on the Missouri River. The Howard/Cooper County Regional Port Authority controls this port.

Some of the other ports our offshore injury law firm serves include: Port of Hannibal, New Madrid County Port, Port of Mississippi County, Port of St. Joseph, Port of West Quincy and Pemiscot County Port.
